Detailed Technical Sheet: Malagón Nebbiolo–Petite Sirah

A bold and expressive red blend that unites the elegance and aromatic complexity of Nebbiolo with the power, depth, and dark-fruit intensity of Petite Sirah. Malagón Nebbiolo–Petite Sirah is crafted to highlight structure, richness, and balance, reflecting both the character of each varietal and the unique terroir of Baja California.

Origin & Vineyard

Producer: Bodegas Malagón
Region of Origin: Baja California, Mexico (Valle de Guadalupe)
Grapes: Nebbiolo & Petite Sirah
Philosophy: To create a distinctive blend that harmonizes the floral, tannic refinement of Nebbiolo with the deep color, concentration, and spice of Petite Sirah—achieving a wine that is powerful yet polished, and unmistakably expressive of its region.

Winemaking & Style

Winemaking Method: Traditional red vinification with extended maceration.
Aging: Aged in oak barrels (French and/or American) to enhance structure, integrate tannins, and contribute layers of complexity.
Process: Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, destemmed, and fermented separately to respect the identity of each varietal. After fermentation and maceration, the wines are blended with precision to achieve the desired balance of aromatics, body, and tannic presence.
Style: Dry red blend; robust, structured, and richly layered.

Sensory Profile (Tasting Notes)

Eye 👀: Deep ruby-red color with violet reflections, dense and concentrated, showing the influence of Petite Sirah’s natural pigmentation.

Nose 👃: Intense and complex. Aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, blackberry compote, and dark currant intertwine with notes of dried rose petals (from the Nebbiolo), black pepper, cocoa, vanilla, and a subtle touch of sweet tobacco and oak spice.

Palate 👄: Full-bodied and generous, with a bold yet refined structure. Nebbiolo contributes lifted acidity and fine-grained tannins, while Petite Sirah adds richness, volume, and deep dark fruit. Flavors of blackberry, cherry, licorice, and baking spices unfold across the palate. The finish is long, warming, and persistent, with a polished tannic grip.
