Technical Sheet: Whispering Angel Rosé
Winery: Château d’Esclans Wine: Whispering Angel Region: Côtes de Provence, France Grape Varieties: A blend of Grenache, Cinsault, and Rolle (Vermentino). The exact percentages can vary by vintage but are dominated by Grenache.
Vinification & Aging
- Harvest: Grapes are harvested during the coolest parts of the day (from sunrise to noon) to prevent oxidation and preserve fresh aromas.
- Sorting: Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes undergo a rigorous selection process, including optical eye sorting, to ensure only the highest quality berries are used.
- Pressing & Fermentation: The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. The juice is then vinified entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to maintain its crispness and aromatic purity.
- Aging: The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks on its lees with “bâtonnage” (stirring) conducted twice weekly to build texture and a rounder mouthfeel. It is unoaked.
Technical Data
- Alcohol (ABV): Approximately 13.0% – 13.5% (varies by vintage)
- Sugar: Dry (typically less than 1 g/L residual sugar)
- Serving Temperature: 10 – 12°C (50 – 54°F)
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: A classic, pale pink/salmon color with bright, shimmering hues.
- Nose (Aroma): Fresh and aromatic with delicate notes of red berries (strawberry, raspberry), citrus (grapefruit), and stone fruit (white peach). This is complemented by subtle floral hints of rose petals and honeysuckle.
- Palate (Taste): Crisp, dry, and refreshing with a smooth, round texture. The flavors mirror the nose with a core of red fruit and citrus, supported by a distinct minerality. The finish is clean, elegant, and persistent.
